i just wanna be a sheep / (baa baa baa baa) / i just wanna be a sheep / (baa baa baa baa) / i pray the Lord my soul to keep / i just wanna be a sheep / (baa baa baa baa)
i don't wanna be a pharisee / i don't wanna be a pharisee / cause they're not fair, you see / i don't wanna be a pharisee
(chorus)
i don't wanna be from babylon / i don't wanna be from babylon / cause they just babble on / i don't wanna be from babylon
(chorus)
i don't wanna be a saducee / i don't wanna be a saducee / cause they're so sad, you see / i don't wanna be a saducee
(chorus)
i don't wanna be a hypocrite / i don't wanna be a hypocrite / cause they're not hip with it / i don't wanna be a hypocrite

So I'm not sure what being a Babylonian has to do with the gift of gab. Maybe we can improve the song--anyone else care to add a verse (please, no verses about Sodomites)? Here's a few:
I don't wanna be an apostate / I don't wanna be an apostate / cause they feel like they have to hate / I don't wanna be an apostate
I don't wanna be a heretic / I don't wanna be a heretic / cause they use all those hairy tricks / I don't wanna be a heretic

Posted by: natalie at November 14, 2004 11:16 AMoh, my...we definitely sang that song in sunday school at Main Street when I was little. The saducee verse was definitely my favorite.
Posted by: emily jane at November 14, 2004 07:41 PMHuh. I must not come from the same part of the country.
Posted by: Heather at November 15, 2004 06:26 AMthis one is certain to raise theological eyebrows
I dont wanna be an Adam / I dont wanna be an Adam / what a-damn man that adam / I dont wanna be an Adam
Posted by: mo ladue at November 15, 2004 08:51 PMbig eyebrows, indeed, all the way from ladue to big bend.
Posted by: jeremy at November 15, 2004 11:58 PMsorry if i offended...i couldnt resist the play on words, although so obvious...but isnt that what makes it fun?
Posted by: mo ladue at November 16, 2004 05:37 AMdidn't offend me. you should have seen the verse i wrote on sodomites before i deleted it.
Posted by: jeremy at November 16, 2004 09:04 AMThe sad thing is, i didn't learn that song until I started teaching Sunday School.
Posted by: tabbie at November 16, 2004 06:24 PMone of the sunday school kids made up his own verse for it, but i don't remember how it went; anyway, it was about Mennonites, which he apparently thought was some Old Testament people group (for obvious reasons).
Posted by: tabbie at November 16, 2004 06:28 PMglad i didnt offend, but it was more of an across the board concern for offense, not just you jeremy...i have a semi-funny story about my name that you may enjoy, jeremy...when i call my brother who lives out of state, his caller ID brings up "Ladue, Mo"...thus, his girlfriend saw it one day when i called and asked, "who is Mo Ladue?" he and his roomates doubled over laughing because they new of my place of residence...now everytime i call they answer with a resounding, "MO LADUUUUUUUEEEEEE! Whats up Mo?" (including my bro's girlfriend)...to top it off, i have taken it as my stage name, although i dont see stages...but i like it, its fun...i suppose it is my new blog name.
Posted by: mo ladue at November 16, 2004 10:46 PMMO, the possibilities for names beginning with MO and ending with a city are endlessly delightful. And since no one else seemed offended, I just figured I'd speak for myself. I'm selfish that way.
