It's now 28 minutes after my last post. My increasingly dear friend Palmer (whom I've never met, but I have ideas) sent me a link to an article yesterday. I just finished reading it. I'm devastated. It's one of the most brilliant, beautiful, crushing articles I've read in a long time. It's long, so make sure you have 20 minutes to spare if you decide to read. I think I'll get back to writing now.

Posted by: emily jane at February 16, 2005 12:30 PMgreat article.
sullivan writes "There were too many ghosts here."
have we, as the Church, become just a ghost of culture? sort of culture, but not really - some strange, undefinable thing, yet disturbing to many?
instead of engaging the world head-on, instead of being a counterculture, do we merely cause chill-bumps and a tingling spine in non-Christians, to make them hurry up and try to get away from us?
hope the (almost) blank page is staring back at you with words by now. in the meantime, thanks for mentioning this article. his evaluation is so dead-on and sad. it makes me wonder how much longer the false, misguided marketing can continue.

Posted by: Justin at February 16, 2005 08:32 PMthat was an amazing piece of journalism, and felt so personal at the same time. i almost starting sobbing when He was talking about loving Jesus.
thanks for mentioning this.
Posted by: maria at February 16, 2005 09:15 PMThanks for the link. Incredible read, tough though. I was taken by the relative openness of the writer, sharing what was evidently such difficult memories. And the off-center integrity of his entourage was encouraging. Being a native of WV, I have known those men, worked along side of them, seen their understanding of the world and their love of God. I'm glad someone else has seen that too.

Posted by: RT at February 17, 2005 01:46 PMThat was fantastic, thank you.
I especially liked his explaination of our believing in order to see.
