If I end up self-releasing my memoir, I'm going to include a CD on the inside back cover. Over the course of two years, I wrote 6 songs for Abigail (the human heart of the memoir), and my friends Jonathan, Duff, and Adam put life into the lyrics. Adam recently finished re-mixing and -mastering the last song, "Sleep Tight," for an EP he's hoping to release. He gave me permission to post it here. So here it is--click on the photo to listen or download.

Great photo.
Posted by: daniel silliman at February 22, 2005 04:19 PMthanks, daniel. i'll be returning to that wheatfield this summer to work on the book.
Posted by: jeremy at February 22, 2005 04:30 PM* thanks for the kindness in posting the update since version on ghetto monk. the older version is actually the playlist "sleep four" on my iTunes. i like songs that feel like memories are behind them and my imagination makes of them a little movie. of course, at the same time, knowing that in phototastic nature my imagination might create a piece of fiction, just as when you read a book and imagine the characters and then watch the movie and say, "hey, i didn't imagine helen to be blonde."
Posted by: jane. at February 22, 2005 05:03 PMat the computer at work, it took a few minutes for the song to download, and meanwhile, I had migrated to another site. while my attention was diverted, the music came in, as if from nowhere. the floating realplayer was gone, yet the music strummed along. thank you. i feel a little renewed at the end of a long day.
good luck with the photo essaying.
Posted by: mary at February 22, 2005 05:23 PMjane, you're welcome. thanks for saying hello, mary--long time no hear.
Posted by: jeremy at February 22, 2005 06:04 PMgood grief, you write songs too? and good ones at that.
Posted by: maria at February 22, 2005 07:14 PMthanks, maria. i only write the words and suggest a general direction--my disgustingly talented friends do the rest.
Posted by: jeremy at February 22, 2005 07:23 PM* i meant to tell you that back before i knew your blog, nate passed on to me issue 2 of ghetto monk and i loved the design of how you incorporated the audio cd...and i consider myself hard to please when it comes to homegrown goods like that.
Posted by: jane. at February 23, 2005 05:11 PMNice song, man.
This is one of J's favorite online stories:

I like the voice of the bird.
Posted by: barlow at February 26, 2005 09:12 PMOh, by the way, if you want to send some lyrics to a fast song, I would love to try and write some music for it. I'm not as good with slow songs.
Posted by: barlow at February 26, 2005 09:15 PMthanks, jane and jon. of all the songs i've written, 0 of the 6 have been fast. maybe i should try to break out.
