things i should have learned by now

A. Words have the power to kill, power enough to affect the way things are in China, and that I should be sorry.

B. I am not the only person who matters.

C. I will be misunderstood, which is okay, and I won't care, which is not okay.

D. To refuse to believe that someone means what he says is childish.

E. I am too often like a dentist with bad teeth, proud of what that says.

F. Admiration should not be the chief end of man.

G. Others know when I'm full of it, so no use hiding.

H. Knowledge does not equal virtue, but generosity sure comes close.

Funny, I read "B" as I am the only person who matters. Whoops.

Do you mind if I repost on my blog? I like this list a lot.

heather, you can repost anything you'd like, since everything, i figure, is stolen in the end . . .

Interesting list.

I'm curious about C. Misunderstood how? I guess this makes sense if you are speaking of your words, (making yourself too complicated for your hearers,) but if you are speaking about yourself and your actions being misunderstood I'd be interested to know how not caring is a negative. I've found caring about the misunderstandings people have had about me and my actions to not help and just cause me a lot of self-absorbtion and frustration, after the period of deep hurt.

Yes, Valerie, I was talking about my own writing, especially the recent posts on marriage.
