My summer crush is The Prayers and Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers. The band member bios are almost enough to warrant unilateral relational unhealth (scientific phrase for "crush," I think). The cover of "Billie Jean" is almost enough. Apparently there are some theology degrees floating around the band (not that that necessarily means much, testify), and the band makes good music. Slow, thick, lyric, not-whiny (unlike certain midwest crooners), translated, mediated. Lots of .mp3's for download on their website. Today, I stumbled across this, "Unexpected Song." Unexpected, indeed. Support The Prayers and Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers. If you're in North Carolina, you have lots of chances to do so in-person, and soon.
Also, you can read the liner notes from the new album, The Mother of Love Emulates the Shape of Cynthia, and stream the album while passing The Confessions, Kierkegaard, Samwise Gamgee, and Stryper, to name a few, uh, things.
